Church Expansion
By the grace of God, the North York neighbourhoods have been in continuous development during the past few years, with commercial buildings, community centres, residential buildings being constructed everywhere around this area. With the many condominium buildings being completed this year and early next year, it is estimated that 10,000 to 20,000 residents will be moving into area. The City of Toronto has also built the Sheppard Subway with station right at the door of the church building. This area is one of the prime real estates in the city, and one of the most prosperous. It truly is in a strategic location in the City for evangelism and development of His work.
Thanks to God for giving the brothers and sisters of NYCBC the same shared vision. In May, 2005, the adjacent property was purchased. The overall plan and design of the new building is as following: the land is approximately 39,000 square feet; the building will be six stories high, with a usable area of about 92,000 square feet. It will have three levels of underground parking areas and some parking spaces on the ground level, for a total of more than 300 parking spaces. The church sanctuary will accommodate over a thousand people, with dozens of rooms of different sizes for the uses as offices, libraries, nursery, toddler rooms, activities for our teenagers and youths, Sunday School classrooms, fellowship, small groups, and other community activities. It is planned that the church building will be developed into a multi-purpose property for the use by the church, for worship services, lectures, conferences, ball games and other types of sports.
Thanks to God for His leading and guidance. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on November 21, 2010. At this point, demolition of the old building, excavation/shoring, and laying of the foundation have been completed. The constructing of the underground parking commenced in August, 2011. As of mid April, 2012 the first floor of the parking levels is almost completed, and we are starting to build the ground floor. If God is willing, we hope to see a ‘Gospel Building’ erected and standing tall on this land around mid-2013.
May God continue to build up the brothers and sisters in NYCBC, as a group of mighty people, and through this new building, to serve the local community and this generation. Furthermore, let us all be of one heart and in unity, strive to spread the gospel, and build up each other and stand firm as stated in our mission statement: ‘Empowering God’s People - Blessing our world‘. May all the glory be unto our true and living TriuneGod.
